Councillor Vacancy for Chilbolton Parish Council

We have been informed by Test Valley Borough Council that we may fill the empty seat on Chilbolton Parish Council by co-option.

If you are interested in joining the Parish Council, please email the Clerk for an application form (Chilbolton.clerk@hotmail.co.uk).

The application closure date is Thursday 3 October 2024. Applications will be considered by the Parish Council at the meeting to be held on Monday 7 October 2024.

However, if there are no applications the deadline for applications will be extended to Thursday 31 October 2024 and will be considered by the Parish Council at the meeting to be held on Monday 4 November 2024.
The successful applicant will need to complete a Declaration of Office and Registration of Pecuniary Interests before they can attend a meeting as a Councillor and vote on any matter.

Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Ability:

• Ability and willingness to represent the Council and their Parish
• Good interpersonal skills and able to contribute opinions at meetings whilst willing to see others’ views and accept majority decisions.

• Ability and willingness to work closely with other members and to maintain good working relationships with all members and the clerk.
• Ability and willingness to work with the Council’s partners (e.g., voluntary groups, other Parish Councils, principal authority, charities).

Circumstances:
• Ability and willingness to regularly attend meetings of the Council. (Please note that the majority of Council meetings are held in an evening and, unfortunately, under present legislation the Parish Council is not permitted to contribute to the cost of Councillors’ childcare or care of dependants.)

Tony Ewer (Chair) – CllrEwer.chilboltonpc@gmail.com (01264 860486)

Tony and his wife Jenny moved to Chilbolton in 2007 and he joined the Parish Council in 2011. He chaired the Neighbourhood Plan working group, continues to chair the Village Hall Management Committee and leads the Strategy Plan for the Parish Council.

In addition to his extensive experience in senior roles in a variety of sectors, Tony is a past President of Transvaal Chamber of Industries and has served on the Board of several pension and medical insurance funds. He is an enthusiastic world traveller, particularly enjoying African wild life and photography, and has been a Governor of Wherwell Primary School since 2014.

David Griffiths (Vice -Chair) – CllrGriffiths.chilboltonpc@gmail.com (01264 860313)

David has lived in Chilbolton for over 50 years, having moved to the village in 1971. A few years later he joined the Parish Council and has served as Chairman for long spells since that time. He has also chaired the Open Spaces Committee (COSC) for the last ten years.

He was a barrister from 1967 until 1989 and then served as a Circuit Judge until his retirement in 2009.

Geoff Cockram – CllrCockram.chilboltonpc@hotmail.com (07703 775743)

Geoff moved to Chilbolton in 2013 as a result of a company relocation from London to Southampton. He joined the Parish Council in 2019 and is a member of the Planning Committee and leads on Highway matters . He is also Vice-chair of the Village Hall Committee.

After a long career in Programme/Project Management Geoff is now enjoying his retirement.

David joined Chilbolton Parish Council in October 2020 and leads on fundraising and communications.

Originally from Cumbria, David and his wife Denise moved to Chilbolton in 2007 when they moved back to the UK from Germany. After a career in international banking, David is now focused on local business and community activities. He runs a local sustainable shopping service, is a governor at Test Valley School in Stockbridge and is also Treasurer of Andover Musical Theatre Company.

Julian Hudson – CllrHudson.chilboltonpc@gmail.com (07739630713)

A Hampshire native, Julian studied Classics at Oxford, before gaining postgraduate degrees in Planning and Regeneration. He spent a decade working for a local council in London, and returned to Winchester in 2014. He then moved to Chilbolton with his wife in 2021. Julian leads on Transport Planning in an Engineering Consultancy and is an active member of COSC as well as the Planning Committee. Julian’s other interests include visiting museums, art galleries, design exhibitions and scenic gardens. He retains a keen interest in history and archaeology, and enjoys walking in the countryside with his wife and the family dog.

Sue moved to Chilbolton from Winchester 11 years ago. She joined the working group responsible for developing Chilbolton’s Neighbourhood Plan and saw project through to fruition in May 2021. She was elected to the parish Council in 2021 is a key member of the Strategic Plan Group and now Chairs the Planning Committee.

Sue has a design background, having run her own interior design business since 1986 and worked as a consultant for several local design companies. She is a passionate gardener and also cycles and paints as well as enjoying music and theatre.  She is also an editor of the Chilbolton & Wherwell village magazine.

George moved to Chilbolton in 2006 and joined the Parish Council in 2013 and chairs the Flood Advisory Group.

He works for an International Data communications company as a Field engineer, installing equipment at customer and network site premises, as well as porting phone numbers and keeping an eye on regulatory changes in the U.K. and Ireland.

Mandy Denyer (Clerk) – chilbolton.clerk@hotmail.co.uk (07514 670919)

Mandy has been Chilbolton Parish Council’s Clerk since October 2011. 

Originally from Andover, she attended Wherwell Primary School and returned to live in Wherwell 18 years ago as the Marquess of Camden’s housekeeper.

Her passion for horses and eventing has gradually given way to a new adrenaline rush from riding her motorbike, while the flexible working hours she has as Clerk allows her plenty of quality time with her 3 dogs!
